I trained as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist at the former Lincoln Centre for Psychotherapy and have worked for many years across NHS mental health services, including specialist mother and baby services, addiction services and adult psychotherapy.
For twelve years I worked at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust in the Adult Department, the Youth Gender Identity Service and the Portman Clinic, where I was involved in the supervision of probation officers, programme organisation and teaching as a Senior Clinical Lecturer.
Senior Fellowship
I was also a Senior Fellow at the University of East London and co-author, with Marcus Evans, of Gender Dysphoria: A Therapeutic Model for Working with Children, Adolescents and Young Adults.
Throughout my career I have been particularly interested in how identity develops within relationships and family life, and in helping children, adolescents, adults and parents think about emotional distress through careful psychological understanding.
My clinical work has focused on supporting individuals and families to understand complex emotional experiences with curiosity, compassion and developmental thinking rather than premature certainty.
I continue to provide consultation for parents concerned about children and adolescents experiencing gender-related distress, helping families think together about these complex issues through careful assessment and psychological understanding.
