Our Shared
Aim
Our work has been shaped by decades of clinical practice, teaching, research and writing.
Although much of our recent work has focused on gender identity and gender distress, our interests extend more broadly to emotional development, psychoanalytic psychotherapy and the psychological processes through which identity is formed.
This website brings together our publications, lectures, interviews and educational resources with a single purpose: to encourage thoughtful enquiry, informed discussion and a deeper psychological understanding of identity.
We believe that the most meaningful understanding comes not from certainty, but from curiosity, careful thinking and an openness to complexity.
Our Approach
Although our professional backgrounds differ, our work is united by a shared commitment to psychoanalytic thinking and to understanding emotional development in all its complexity.
We believe that psychological understanding should precede significant clinical decisions and that careful assessment, thoughtful enquiry and compassionate exploration offer the strongest foundation for therapeutic work.
We hope the books, papers, lectures and educational resources collected on this website contribute to informed discussion, reflective clinical practice and a deeper understanding of identity, emotional development and psychological distress.
The purpose of this website is not to promote a particular ideology or to tell people what they should think...
It is to provide knowledge, clinical experience and a psychological framework that encourages careful reflection, critical thinking and informed discussion.
